It
was 1980. I was out of college and not quite sure what
career path I wanted to pursue. To pay my bills I
provided local businesses with a few promotional items
like t-shirts, coffee mugs and pens. The business took off and within a short time it became
my full-time passion.
One
day I received a phone call from one of my customers.
She was on the PTA of her child's school and wanted to
purchase spirit items. "Jack, I've got a school
spirit catalog that some company apparently mails out to
schools. I see the items I want, but I'd rather buy from
you."
When
I looked in the catalog I noticed that almost all the
items were from factories I currently work with. But I
also noticed something else: the prices that the catalog
company was charging to the schools were, in many cases,
significantly higher than what I knew to be the
factory's suggested retail prices.
Now,
I was acutely aware that schools across the country were
short on funds. I also knew that this is America, and
you can charge whatever you want. But it seemed to me
that, given the financial predicament of many schools,
overcharging for spirit items was just plain wrong.
So
we started introducing ourselves to schools and, the
rest, as they say, is history. Our school business
quickly grew, and we started School Colors to service
and focus on the unique needs of our school clients.
Today,
School Colors services schools across the country (and
overseas as well). Ours is a family business where even
our 13 year old daughter gets involved.
We provide our
clients with thousands of school spirit items which are decorated by
any of a variety of methods: silk-screening, embroidery,
wove-in decoration, hot-stamping and rhinestone
decoration.
Thanks
for asking.
If you are not yet a customer, I hope you
will give us a try. I think you'll be glad you did.
Sincerely,
Jack Malki
